Diana Perkins website, musician, vocalist, zendrummer.

One of my passions is BIRDING...or BIRD WATCHING.  I keep what is called a LIFE LIST.  A Life List is a list of all the bird species identified with absolute certainty during a whole lifetime of serious birding.  Being "Serious" implies knowing about look-alike species and subspecies, the various plumange atates, and having a systematic-enough mind to not be sloppy and haphazard when it comes to making the lists.  There are about 850 species in North America and 9,000 worldwide.  There is a "600 Club" for birders who have listed more than 600 species.  My list currently totals about 180 that I have seen over the last 20 years, everywhere from 10,000 ft up in the Rockies, up and down California coastline and mountains, Ohio, Florida and my own backyard.  There is even a term 'backyard birding' and just like it says, it is bird watching right in your own backyard!  See my LIFE LIST following some interesting bird-related quotations!

"Be like the bird that, pausing in her flight awhile on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her, and yet sings, knowing that she hath wings."  -  Victor Hugo

"It is the beautiful bird which gets caged" - Chinese Proverb

"Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings"  -  Salvador Dali

"It is BIRDS who know no borders!"  -  Diana Perkins
